About the role
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Mechanical Design Engineer to join one of the best engineering team in Bahrain. In this role, you will be responsible for the conceptualization, 3D modeling, and structural design of low-voltage (LV) and high-voltage (HV) switchgear assemblies, electrical control panels, and custom sheet metal enclosures. You will bridge the gap between electrical schematics and physical manufacturing, ensuring our products are optimized for thermal efficiency, safety, and ease of assembly.
What you’ll do
- Cabinet & Sheet Metal Design: Create 3D models and 2D flat patterns for low-voltage (LV) and high-voltage (HV) switchgear cabinets, control panels, and custom enclosures using SolidWorks Sheet Metal or Inventor.
- Spatial Component Layout: Map out the internal placement of electrical components (PLCs, breakers, relays) to ensure correct electrical clearances, insulation barriers, and optimized wiring paths.
- Busbar System Design: Design and route high-conductivity copper and aluminum busbar systems, calculating proper cross-sections and spacing for short-circuit current stresses.
- Thermal Management: Perform heat load calculations to design adequate ventilation systems, sizing cooling fans, louvers, or heat exchangers while maintaining target IP/NEMA ratings.
- Production Drawing Release: Generate exact fabrication drawings detailing welding, bending, and punching dimensions for the CNC laser and turret punch operators.
- BOM & ERP Management: Compile detailed Bills of Materials (BOMs) for all structural hardware, fasteners, and raw materials, updating them directly into the ERP/PLM system.
- Compliance Integration: Design products to strictly meet international electrical enclosure standards, including IEC 61439, UL 508A, and NEMA regulations.
What you’ll bring
- Education: Bachelor’s degree or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or Production Engineering.
- CAD Expertise: Advanced proficiency in 3D modeling (SolidWorks Sheet Metal preferred) and 2D drafting via AutoCAD.
- Fabrication Knowledge: Strong understanding of sheet metal manufacturing constraints, including bend allowances, welding types, and powder coating processes.
- Electrical Component Familiarity: Prior experience handling the physical dimensions and mounting requirements of standard switchgear products (ABB, Siemens, Schneider, etc.).
- Standards & Protection: Solid understanding of Ingress Protection (IP) ratings and environmental sealing methods.
- Drafting Precision: Strong command of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) and tolerance stack-up analysis.
